also depends what the probation violation is for if he caught another case he could be sentenced to whatever the sentence was for his original arrest. if its just for not paying a fine or something it might not be so bad

If he turned himself in without an attorney he is a fool. He should talk to his attorney. The judge can revoke probation and sentence him to the full prison (felony) or jail (misdemeanor) term. The judge can also re-instate the probation under stricter conditions. The fact he didn't get in trouble is good but will not necessarily get him off the hook. He could face an additional charge of violating his probation and be sentenced to even more time. In that position, he definitely should be obtaining legal advice.

It takes a week after one orders to get commissary. Inmates can order once per week. Living out of state means mothing good or bad. Unfortunately if he is very ill he probably won't get proper treatment. Expensive meds won't be provided. The formulary is limited and they will substitute something cheap that probably won't work or work as well. It will take a few days to a few weeks before he gets any necessary medication that is not absolutely common like insulin or common antiseizure drugs. Nothing will help. He will be treated like dirt, medically neglected, verbally abused, assumed to be a violent irrational nut, and physically battered if he says boo. It has to do with the dismally low requirements to be a guard and there complete lack of training in recognizing, questioning about, or dealing with all but the usual medical problems. One nurse told me "I don't give a damn if you die. I don't like being a nurse and I took this job so I wouldn't have to do it and could still get my pension".

Thanks again Linda it is so hard for me to wrap my head around the conditions in there . I didnot know it was as bad as it is or he would have not done the right thing by turning himself.What I don`t understand if they were going to give him 6 months and he had set up a court date with this atty. why would they not have giving him that time when he showed up why wait and take up the courts time with this april 8th court date?Do you think they are teaching him a lesson and will let him out on April8 or is that when they will give him more time? We are going to go to Chicago to the court date will it help if we say or wright the Judge a letter we have not been in any trouble in our lives or does that not matter? Would it help if we got some real high price att. or would the outcome be the same. Thanks again you have been lots of help so far even if what you ay iss not what we want to hear.

He needs to talk to his attorney. I don't know what he was conviced of, whether he has other previous convictions, what his attorney told him before he turned himself in. Most attorneys will negotiate a deal with the prosecutor before their client turns themself in. I don't understand why your questions were not answered BEFORE he turned himself in! Yes a letter to the judge will always help. Address it to the judge and list the courtroom number and use the address 2600 S California, Chicago, IL 60608. I don't know about a different attorney. The one I list on my blogs is very good, reasonably priced, and would give you a free phone consultation. Look up my blog: cookcountyjudges.wordpress.com. I don't put information about particular attorneys directly on this web site because I am just a volunteer who answers questions and I don't think it is appropriate. Please talk to his attorney.

PC - I greatly appreciate the occasional thank you. I have always lived my life in service to others. I will continue to do so as long as I have the strength. People need to connect and help each other. As the population gets larger and the streets more crowded the distance between people paradoxically gets greater. We must fight this trend. Good luck with the system! May peace be with you this holiday season.

The only good thing I can tell you is the law automatically gives day for day good time. If his sentence is 6 mo he will therefore serve 3 months unless he acts up and gets a disciplinary ticket and they have a due process hearing and take away the good time.

Violating probation can also be considered an insult to the court and he could therefore also be charged and sentenced for contempt of court. He better make a VERY BIG apology when he sees the judge. He should grovel and admit absolute stupidity.

You can prepay a commercial collect call company.

You can't put money on the County phone, but you can prepay some collect calls through commercial services:

Correctional Billing Services is a company that sets up prepaid collect calls. 1-800-844-6591 ,$25 minimum to set it up and $6.95 processing each transaction. Each call will be expensive and is limited to 10 minutes. You actually can talk only about 5 minutes because they constantly repeat a message that you are talking to an inmate and that it may be recorded and that inmates sometimes use scams.

I don't know if there are other commercial services that do the same thing. You will have to research that.

You can check the western union web site and see if you can do it on the Internet. Please write a follow-up note to tell us if you were successful.

If you mail a money order of no more than $100 made out to the inmate, when they open and search the mail, it will be removed and deposited in commissary. The inmate will receive a receipt. He can use the money as soon as he receives the receipt. However, they are only allowed to order from commissary once per week on the day designated for their unit.

To send it by wire transfer:
The CCDOC web site says the following;
How do I wire an inmate funds for Commissary?
You can wire money to an inmate through WESTERN UNION using a QUICK COLLECT®. You will need the following information:

CODE CITY = CCDOC
STATE = Illinois
Account = [Enter the inmate's full name and I.D. #]
To locate a WESTERN UNION agent visit the WESTERN UNION Web Site or send money online using WESTERN UNION's Online Quick Collect Service.

You can get the inmates ID number at the inmate lookup part of the jail web site.
